Microsoft To Purchase Calista Tech

New York (eCanadaNow) - Microsoft is known for its many computer ventures, but it is the latest move into virtual reality and virtualizations that has many watching closely.  Microsoft is using its Windows Server to help bring to the data center realm the new virtualizations software.  It hopes to help bring this concept to the desktop from the data center.

Monday Microsoft announced that it was in the process of purchasing Calista Technologies.  Calista currently makes virtualization presentation software and methods.  The amount of the sale was not disclosed.  It hopes to simplify the process of allowing all versions of the Windows Desktop software to be virtualized.

Creating support for MS Office software to run in a virtualized environment is also another issue that Microsoft is pursuing.  Along with Citrix, Microsoft is changing and expanding virtualization sales and marketing concepts. New deployment tools, and a lower pricing scheme are also things on the drawing board that Microsoft hopes to implement.

"We believe Virtualization is great but we are working toward using it with the application layer, and then the user layer," said Larry Orecklin.  Orecklin is the System Center and Virtualization Manager for Microsoft. "Virtualization is mostly at the machine layer now, we look to expand to the server and client layers," said Orecklin.
